Any errors or discrepancies in your credit report can lead to unforeseen loan rejections. In these circumstances, your top priority should be to rectify these errors by filing a complaint with the CIBIL authorities. Now, the question arises: how do you file a CIBIL complaint online?
Don’t worry! In this article, you will get a complete guidance on CIBIL complaint, different modes of filing complaints, including their importance and the step-by-step procedure. So, let’s begin the discussion by understanding common types of errors in a CIBIL report.
What are the common types of errors in a CIBIL report?
As a leading credit bureau in India, TransUnion CIBIL maintains credit data for millions of borrowers. Therefore, errors in an individual’s credit report are not uncommon. Usually, when you avail of a credit facility from a bank, the respective lender reports your credit information to all credit bureaus, including TransUnion CIBIL.
Simultaneously, CIBIL collects your credit information from all the lenders from whom you have taken loans. This process happens regularly on a large scale for millions of customers. During the data submission and aggregation stage, sometimes errors may occur either due to faults of credit bureaus or due to the negligence of the lenders.
Errors such as duplicate loan accounts, unknown credit facilities, or incorrect personal information typically arise from internal technical issues at the credit bureau. On the other hand, errors in loan status (e.g., overdue, written-off, suit filed) or delays in payment updation and outdated credit information are usually caused by negligence on the part of the credit institution.
Ultimately, these errors can negatively impact your CIBIL score and even lead to loan rejections. However, the good news is that you can easily resolve these issues and rectify your CIBIL report by raising a concern with the CIBIL support team.
Various channels available for registering complaints with CIBIL:
TransUnion CIBIL offers various channels online and offline, as mentioned on their official website, through which an individual can approach them to rectify CIBIL-related errors. This dispute resolution process is a completely free service offered by them, meaning you don’t have to pay any fee to file a complaint with CIBIL. Let’s discuss each of these channels in detail.
A. Process to file a CIBIL complaint online:
I. Raise an online dispute by logging into your CIBIL Portal:
This is one of the most convenient ways to raise a complaint with TransUnion CIBIL customer support. To follow this method, first, visit the official TransUnion CIBIL website at www.cibil.com and log in to your account using your username and password. Then, navigate to the ‘Raise a Dispute’ section to access the dispute form.
Through this process, you can raise complaints regarding any incorrect information in your CIBIL report—whether it’s personal details, contact information, or inaccurate account data.
In the dispute form, correct the incorrect details and then click ‘Submit’. After successful submission, a dispute ID will be generated, starting with (P22032025…..). Keep the dispute ID for future reference. CIBIL will notify you of the dispute status regularly via email, SMS, or even WhatsApp until the dispute is resolved.
I. To file a CIBIL complaint online, visit the TransUnion official website: cibil.com. On the CIBIL dashboard, you will get the “support” option as highlighted in the picture below. Click on the “Support” tab.
II. Then the support page will open to you. On this page, you may find several important links related to individual and commercial CIBIL. Scroll down slightly, then you get the option “Contact Us: CLICK HERE TO KNOW THE DETAILS”. Click on the yellow to proceed further.
III. Then on the next Contact Us page, you will get the option “Write to Us: Click Here” as highlighted in the picture below. Click on the link to continue.
IV. On the next page, you will get two options, respectively Consumer and Commercial. If your complaint is related to your individual credit report then choose the option “Consumer”. For any queries related to your company credit report, select the option “Commercial”.
However, here, we have explained the further procedure for the individual borrower. The process will be almost similar for commercial borrowers.

Here, you need to fill out the dispute form with your KYC details such as your name, date of birth, contact information, identification details, and so on. Make sure to provide the same mobile number and email ID that are mentioned in your CIBIL report or that you used during registration. For identity verification, it is recommended to use your PAN number, as it is the most easily verifiable document.
Although the Service Request Number and Dispute ID are not mandatory, if you have already raised a complaint using the above method, you should mention the Dispute ID in this section. However, due to recent changes in the Dispute ID format by CIBIL, you might encounter some technical issues. In such cases, you can refer to your previous Dispute ID in the complaint letter for reference.
In the query box, briefly describe your complaint within the 3000-character limit. Don’t forget to mention your CIBIL Control Number (usually found at the top corner of your CIBIL report). Then, attach relevant supporting documents related to your complaint—this may include your KYC documents, CIBIL report, payment proofs, etc. Please note that a maximum of five documents can be uploaded, and each document must be in PNG, JPG, JPEG, or PDF format, with a total size not exceeding 5 MB.
IX. Then update your savings/ current account information as per the RBI’s new compensation policy. Then tick on the check box and copy the image capture. After checking all the details, click on the final submission.
X. After successful submission of the dispute form, you will get a Service Request Number (SRN). And, the same also will be forwarded to your email id. Keep tracking the SNR for further response from CIBIL.
III. Send email to CIBIL authorities:
Did you know that you can also register a complaint with CIBIL by sending an email to their customer support team? Filing a complaint via email can be a suitable option in your case. However, always remember that the information in your CIBIL report is confidential.
That’s why CIBIL usually does not respond to unauthorized email requests. Therefore, when registering a complaint through email, make sure to send it from the same email ID that is mentioned in your CIBIL report or the one you used during your initial registration with CIBIL.
CIBIL will also send an auto-generated email from [email protected], along with a Service Request Number or Interaction ID. Make sure to regularly check your email for further updates.
When you raise a CIBIL complaint online through any of the channels mentioned above, it will be assigned to a CIBIL customer support executive. Typically, CIBIL takes up to 30 days to resolve customer complaints.
If they fail to resolve your issue within this timeframe, or if you are not satisfied with their response, you can escalate the matter to CIBIL’s higher authorities by writing to their Escalation Desk or Nodal Officers via email.
You can also connect with CIBIL through their chatbot service, which is available 24/7. If you wish to chat specifically with a CIBIL customer support representative, they are available Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Tips to ensure faster resolution of CIBIL complaints:
● Contact with the lender:
Did you know that, as per the Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act (CICRA), 2005, TransUnion CIBIL does not have the authority to make any changes to your CIBIL report on its own? That’s why, when you raise a concern about incorrect details in your CIBIL report, CIBIL forwards the disputed information to the respective lender who reported the particular information on your CIBIL report. Only after receiving confirmation from the lender, CIBIL makes the necessary corrections.
Therefore, whenever you raise a complaint with CIBIL, it’s also a good idea to send a separate complaint to the respective lender. This approach can help resolve the issue more quickly and effectively.
● Maintain a record of all the communication and follow-up regularly:
When you’re raising your CIBIL complaint online, make sure your complaint is described well in precise language. After filing complaints with CIBIL and the lender, maintain a continuous with both parties. Keep tracking their responses and take the necessary action until the issue gets resolved.
● Register RBI Ombudsman complaint:
In case, your issue remains unresolved even after 30 days, then you can approach RBI and register grievances against TransUnion CIBIL. Mention all the previous complaint IDs and communication in the letter.
